Wine Barrel Carving Gallery #8

Wine Barrel Carvings Gallery #8 by Maryland Artist Tom Crowl.

Hand Carved Wine Barrel Heads - Wine Art Gallery.

Grape/Leaf/Vine Close Up - Tasting Room

Here is an excellent view of the wine stained wood.  If you look closely at the design's border cuts, you can see how the wine slowly soaked into the oak over the years it was aged in the barrel.  You can also see some good examples of layering in a shallow relief carving.  If you didn't read in an earlier gallery, wine barrel heads are joined by dowel.  Carving too deep means you may hit a pocket, so shallow relief is usually carved.  On this carving, the wine soaked wood carved like steel.  Tom was happy not to have to cut too deep.  This wine barrel head is sold.
